It’s “Contest” Time

BIT CLUB CONTEST

Every year, Toastmasters around the world hold speech contests within their clubs. The club winners go on to compete at the area level and may eventually reach the world-champion stage. You don’t have to compete to be involved in the fun! You can volunteer as a judge, a timer, or one of many other roles. BIT’s club contest this year is on February 26th. Contact Svetlana if you’re interested in volunteering. , Toastmasters around the world hold speech contests within their clubs. AREA CONTEST (District 95, Area 3)

Mark your calendars to support our BIT winners at the Area Contest on March 21st at Eventmanufaktur in Bonn (opposite Bonn Hbf)! The 2025 world champion, Saby, will be there to give the opening words. It’s free to attend the contest, but hosting it isn’t… which is why we’re collecting donations from members and friends. Our goal is to raise 1,500€, and we’re just over halfway there. For every donation of 10€ or more, the city of Bonn will pitch in another 10€! There are 10 days left (until 8pm on Feb 6th) to contribute. With your help we can make this a fabulous event!

Taking off with Toastmasters

How BIT impacts our lives

For most of us at Toastmasters, there’s no need to compete in contests; just getting on stage at a regular meeting feels like a big “win”. At our first meeting in 2026, two former BIT presidents and 2 current members prepared speeches to share how Toastmasters has impacted their lives. What we learned: Toastmasters skyrockets our presentation and communication skills, making us better, professionally and personally.

Let’s do this!

Did you know… with 41 members, BIT is the second-largest Toastmasters club in our area? But our “ranking” is the lowest. Why? Despite the fact that our members are active and giving speeches regularly, they don’t use Pathways (aka “BaseCamp” – toastmasters.org) to record their progress. This means the club gets fewer “points.” When people look at the district statistics, our club has the fewest points! But we can make a group effort to change this. Visit your Pathways account to make sure all the projects you’ve finished are marked as complete. Here’s what we need by June to get the full points this year (and an extra ribbon to add to our flag!):

Together is better

Do you remember the beginning of your Toastmasters journey? For a short time, there were probably lots of questions: How do I sign up for a role? How do I choose a “path” in Pathways? Where do I announce my attendance? What are “levels”? New members can always turn to an officer for questions, and now they can also turn to their “buddy”. Every new member is assigned a buddy to help navigate them the basics for the first couple months. Are you interested in being a buddy? Contact Minupa to get on the buddy list.

More from inside BIT

Money matters

At BIT’s first General Assembly of the year on January 15th, members voted to increase the one-time application fee to 30€ (from 20€) to become a member. This covers the Toastmasters International fee to us, which they increased last year. The new fee amount will take effect on 1 February 2026.

This is your chance to get more involved in BIT. As VP Public Relations, you’ll manage the website, the social media channels, and the press inquiries. Okay… we don’t really get many calls form the press, but maybe we will once you’re on the job! Contact Monica by January 31st to take on this role.
