Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is Toastmasters?
Toastmasters is a global nonprofit that helps people become more confident speakers and leaders through a proven, supportive learning environment.
Who we are?
As the only English-speaking Toastmasters club in the area, Bonn International Toastmasters (BIT) is a non-profit organization and attracts a diverse and international group of professionals who want to improve their public speaking skills. The Club meets Thursdays and is led by a Board of 7 voluntary Officers elected once a year.

Who can attend your meetings?
Anyone over 18 is welcome to visit as a guest—
no speaking required on your first visit (unless you want to!).
Do I have to speak at my first meeting?
No pressure! Guests are welcome to simply observe. You can participate in impromptu speaking (Table Topics) if you’d like.
When and where do you meet?
We meet every Thursday from 18:45 in Design Offices. In summer, we arrange a few outdoor meetings in Rheinaue. Check our [Meetup page/website] for up-to-date details.
What happens at a typical meeting?
Meetings include prepared speeches, impromptu speaking (Table Topics), and constructive evaluations in a friendly, time-managed format.
Is the meeting in English?
Yes, our meetings are conducted entirely in English. No need to be fluent—just willing to improve!
How much does it cost to join?
Guests can attend for free. If you choose to join, there’s a one-time registration fee and biannual membership fee. Details provided during your visit.
How is this different from a public speaking class?
Toastmasters is peer-led and self-paced. You learn by doing, with feedback from fellow members—not instructors.
How do I become a member?
After visiting once or twice, you can talk to our VP Membership to complete a short form and pay the membership fee.
Can I visit more than once as a guest?
Yes! You’re welcome to attend a few meetings before deciding if Toastmasters is right for you.
